PROGRAM OVERVIEW |
| CHILDREN
ARE HAPPIEST when they have just done something they are proud
of. They might have painted a picture or helped cook a meal.
Maybe they performed a dance for their parents or learned to swing from
the jungle gym. We work hard at helping our students have lots of these moments. Naturally, this means watching the children and seeing what activities they are ready for. The emphasis is on participation. For example, if we are making a salad, you will see each child getting to help. When we bake bread, all the children get to pour wheat berries into the grain mill and knead the dough. We also teach children how to use good communication with each other. When there is an upset, we take the time to talk with the students to see what happened. In this way, we teach students to use communication to find where things went wrong and how to prevent similar upsets in the future. |

CLASSROOM
ACTIVITIES include an introduction to written language,
reading readiness, early mathematical concepts, numeral recognition,
computers and hands-on science. Each week we involve the children in drama, sewing, creative stories, dance, gymnastics, cooking, arts and crafts, musical experiences, art lessons, etc. The art lessons culminate in an art show and the student's mounted art is displayed and sold by silent auction. Our students also perform at holiday shows and graduations. |
| PHYSICAL
DEVELOPMENT is an important part of our program. If
children learn physical skills when they are young, the develop a sense
of self confidence that stays with them for life. Therefore, we have created a program that allows us to balance our classroom activities with outdoor experiences throughout the day. Having access to playing fields, a track and tennis courts, our physical exercise program encourages our students to really use their muscles and become very strong. Our students run and bike around the track daily and, for upper body strength, they climb our junior rock climbing wall. We have had coaches tell us that the best players on their team were Hogg's Hollow graduates because they were very strong. |

OUR
FIELD TRIPS are geared to further stimulate and fulfill the
curiosity that children naturally have at a young age. Getting out in the world to experience the environment around them, gives them a much better understanding of life. Children love to explore and we encourage them to ask lots of questions when we are on one of our weekly adventures. |
| OUR
MOMMY & ME CLASS FOR TOTS introduces very young children
and their parents into our environment, making an easier transition into
our preschool program. The program includes organized hands-on indoor and outdoor activities, providing opportunities for children to socialize and develop good communications skills. Adult instruction is discussion-oriented among parents, who are encouraged to raise questions pertaining to child rearing and family issues. The class is available for tots and siblings from 12 to 30 months in age. |
